Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Custom House and Dock Offices . . .

This chapter concerns three important buildings in the Penarth Dock story.

1. The Customs House included the Penarth Dock Company Offices.
2. The Mercantile Marine Offices of the Board of Trade, which are sometimes confusingly referred to as the Dock Offices.
3. The Marine Hotel - Public House.

A section of a T.V.R. schematic layout of the various offices and functional maritime facilities at Penarth Dock circa 1896. All that remains today is the former Customs House and the Board of Trade, Mercantile Marine Offices. The Marine Hotel (a public house) closed due to the slump in the coal trade of the 1920's - 30's, and was subsequently demolished.   [247]
