Sully Station

Sully Station on the Cardiff, Penarth & Barry Junction Railway with a train en-route Penarth. The platform is busy with a wedding party alighting. I don't see the groom however; maybe he and the best man are waiting in the Sully Inn - I often did pint in-hand, not waiting to get married though, that was the Birchgrove Inn at Cardiff! While you are still sober, note the summersault signaling system adopted by the CP&BJ in common with the TVR. The date of this photograph is not known. Can anyone assist with the detail please? Passengers at Sully Station
Maybe the wedding ceremony was held at St. John the Baptist Church where my elder brother, Peter Carder was organist and choirmaster for a number of years. Peter recalls in his memoirs that 'In September 1954, at the age of 13¾ [ yes, Adrian Mole ], I first climbed up on to the organ stool at Saint John the Baptist Church, Sully, drew out all six stops; and so far I have been deafening Christian Congregation Sunday by Sunday ever since for half a century.' C.P.B.J. - Sully Station

'At Sully Station, the glazed awning was supported by brackets bearing the letters C.P.B.J, the initials of the Cardiff, Penarth & Barry Junction Railway, which was promoted by the T.V.R.' - A photograph dating from April 1968 with description from the book 'Steam in South Wales' by Michael Hale. [205]

Mr. D. S. M. Barrie's book 'The Taff Vale Railway' states within the addenda: 'On and from 6 May 1968, passenger services were withdrawn between Penarth and Cadoxton via the Coast route and Biglis Jct., the line being open west of Penarth to the Cement works only.' [006]
