0-6-2T - No. 151 - 'The first were the 'M' class (later re-boilered as 'M1') of which forty-one engines were built between 1884 and 1892. The class was the first example of what became the characteristic South Wales locomotive - the 0-6-2T. They had 4ft - 6in driving wheels and were considered to be mixed-traffic locomotives. All the Taff Vale Railway's 0-6-2T's lasted into Great Western Railway days, with the 'M1' class engines ultimately being withdrawn between 1925 and 1930. No. 151, shown above with colourised enlargements, was one of a batch built by Kitson & Co. Ltd. in 1885 (Works No. 2708), and it would be withdrawn as GWR No. 552 in 1930.' - Steam Days Magazine No. 271 [1037] March 2012. [20220714]
