Whilst researching the origins of the swing bridge over the lock between the dock and the basin, a variety of common denominators emerged which included the eminent designer of Penarth Dock, John Hawkshaw, engineer Samuel Dobson, contractors Messrs James and Price plus Messrs de Bergue & Company. Let us commence with the TVR's intended new road to connect its established interests at Cardiff Docks with their new Penarth Dock and Ely Tidal Harbour ; all will become as clear as river Ely mud as my Mum used to say!
