Swing Bridge over the River Taff toward Penarth Head
Swing Bridge over the River Taff toward Penarth Head - enlargement

An early view from the Westgate Street area toward the Temperance Town development of the 1850's. My Mother signed the 'Pledge' on my behalf. I remember her telling me that this was signed during the early days when we lived in Splott but in my defence it was at an age when I was imbibing only mother's best milk!

In the distance is Penarth Head with the church and spire of St. Augustine's. The enlargement illustrates the River Taff swing bridge in its closed position near the mouth of the river. The photograph is from the National Museum of Wales on-line collections. [120] [Archive reference 1994.100] [20180107]
