Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Nine - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - Mr. B's 1836 Ely Docks . . .

1833 - Alexandra Wilson - 'Penarth Head'. [440] Mr. Chappel also has a print of the painting below in his book. The artist, Alexander Wilson was born 1796, died 1874, and this oil painting dating from 1833 is hung in the Cardiff City Hall. It shows the coal staithe featured in the previous print and adds uncertainty as to the date of construction of the staithe but is probably representative of the technology available to Mr. B. for his proposed new dock at Cogan Pill.
