◊ Suspension Bridge, Clifton - The suspension bridge commenced by I. K. Brunel and completed by John Hawkshaw F.R.S. and William Henry Barlow F.R.S. Cochrane Grove and Company were contractors according to the inscription in the masonry above the east pier. The bridge was commenced in 1836 and completed in 1864, just one year prior to the opening of Penarth Dock ; what a busy time for engineer John Hawkshaw! - Another of Martin J.
