This chapter is an account of the activities of the Cooper family at both Pill and Penarth over two generations of boat-builders. George Cooper it seems was the only exception and moved away from wooden vessels to those made from iron and steel and powered by steam. He later became the manager of the Penarth Ship Building and Ship Repairing Company, which evolved into the Penarth Pontoon and Slipway Company which evolved into the Penarth Dock Engineering Company : the place where I learnt my trade as a mechanical engineer, hence, I take pride in this link back to the Cooper family.
