Volume Ten - Pre-Victorian to the present day - even more aspects - The Cooper family of boat-builders at Penarth and Pill . . ◊ 1878 - 1889 - The Glamorgan Archives [599] hold Crew Lists under the Port of Cardiff Crew Agreements and Official Logbooks during the period 1863 to 1913 for a vessel named 'Olive Branch' which was owned by the Cooper family at Pill. She was registered to owner Charles Cooper according to the 1878 to 1884 crew lists. The Master in 1878 was George Webb of Bristol but in 1882 and 1884 the Master is listed as Charles Cooper, which was quite a neat trick since we have established that he had departed this earth during 1879! The vessel then passed or was re-registered in the name of Henry Charles Cooper in the 1886 crew list and the Master was Charles Meadows of Oldbury. Another crew list of 1889 lists the owner as Frederick Charles Cooper of Pill, Co. Somerset and the Master was Alfred Hobbs of Weston-super-Mare. When or where the vessel was built is not known but I suspect that it was father Charles Cooper's work at Pill or perhaps Penarth. Does anyone know more about this vessel please?
