Pier. Penarth - A lovely postcard view of the fine pier taken in the first few years of the twentieth century ; complete with azure seawater!

The post-date is August 1906 and makes reference to the Eisteddfod which was held in Carnarvon that year. A contemporary news reporter commented ; 'A trumpet was sounded for the purpose it was said, of waking up the owls that were sleeping quietly in the turrets (of the castle). But whatever the object, it pleased the Bards, for they called upon the trumpeter to sound the trumpet a second time.'

I had the honour of playing a number of times at the Eisteddfod and the band even won the incredible prize of £500 at Newtown in 1965. This postcard is held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20191024]
