The s.s. 'Fancy' of Tønsberg was originally a British owned vessel built at the Josef Thompson & Sons yard, Sunderland, having been launched in 1883. From 1906 until 1916 she was owned by Nilssen & Bjønness of Tønsberg, Norway. The vessel was on a voyage from Lerwick to Arkhangelsk with a cargo of herring when in September 1916 she was sunk by the German submarine U-43, 6 miles southeast of Tsypnavolok, Murmansk. There were no casualties. Many thanks to Wrecksite for the info. [749]
