Bute Docks Company.

• Pier Head - Cardiff Docks - A postcard published by Stewart & Woolf of Hatton Garden, London, E.C. date not known but probably in the 1920's or 30's. The hand-tint artist of the halftone lithography was probably working in Saxony where the cards were produced and had no way of knowing that the Bute Docks Company offices were constructed of red brick and Etruria Marl, a clay used to create the glazed terracotta ornamentation featured inside and outside of the iconic structure. Completed in 1897 it survives today, as a Grade I listed building being a fine tribute to its architect William Frame (1846-1906). Another heritage postcard from the Penarth Dock Collection with the lower insert snapped by Dai-the-Rat himself! [001] [20200116]
