Penarth Dock, South Wales - 150 years - the heritage and legacy
Penarth Dock, South Wales - the heritage & legacy . . .

Volume Eight - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Even more aspects - More Moments Captured in Time . . .

1930's - Penarth. The Pier from Penarth Head.

• 1930's - Penarth. The Pier from Penarth Head - A Photochrom Company postcard. The company was based both in London and Royal Tunbridge Wells and operated under licence of Photochrom Zürich from the mid 1890's onwards. However, this postcard dates to after 1929, when the new art deco Pavilion was opened to the public. I am unable to identify the paddle steamer as there were three or four single funnel steamers operating under the P & A Campbell flag during this decade. Assistance to more accurately date the photograph would be appreciated. Another piece of our heritage held within the Penarth Dock Collection. [001] [20200314]

1940's - Esplanade & Pier Pavilion, Penarth.

• 1940's - Esplanade & Pier Pavilion, Penarth - Another view along the esplanade with the Italian Gardens on the left which were opened to the public during March 1926. It was where band concerts were held and where Princess Diana walked in October 1991. A postcard postmarked August 1945 recording our local heritage and held within the Penarth Dock Collection. 1950's - Promenade & Pier, Penarth.

• 1950's - Promenade & Pier, Penarth - Another view of the pier and esplanade on a chilly day during the 1950's. A single funnel steamer has just departed the pier for the Pier Head, Cardiff which is probably the p.s. 'Glen Usk'. A postcard recording our local heritage held within the Penarth Dock Collection.
