She was surveyed at Portishead, Port of Bristol, but the works were incomplete, subsequently she sailed to Penarth and the survey was completed there. The vessel was of 1,792 Gross Register Tonnage and registered to the Port of London having been built by Richardson, Duck & Company of Thornaby-on-Tees and Whitby and launched in January 1890.

She changed owners and was renamed Aranda in 1911 by her new Norwegian owners. During August 1916. whilst on a voyage from Bonaventure to Glasgow with a cargo of deals (timber), she struck a mine from a German submarine whilst navigating between the North Channel and the Hebrides Islands. Sadly two of the crew were lost. She was subsequently towed into Lough Foyle where she settled with the tops of her masts still showing above water. The cargo was salvaged by divers who used explosives to blow the deck off to gain access to the holds. The photograph above is of s.s. Eugenie in the River Avon prior to 1911 and the Notice to Mariners warns of the danger of the submerged vessel navigating Lough Foyle. [002]
