She was surveyed afloat in Penarth Dock by Mr. A. E. Keydell. The vessel was a sailing vessel of 1,625 Gross Register Tonnage and registered to the Port of Liverpool having been built by T. R. (Thomas Ridley) Oswald & Company at Sunderland during 1875. The survey was necessary 'on account of damage sustained in consequence of collision with another ship by leaving Harve.'

1902 - On 31st of August 1902, Hospodar was moored at Algoa Bay, nearby Port Elizabeth, South Africa, having arrived from New South Wales, Australia, with a cargo of coal. That same day the greatest storm in living memory arrived and it is estimated that around twenty vessels were blown ashore in the gale that ensued including Hospodar ; all vessels were apparently wrecked. Thanks to the Sunderland site for the information. [797]
