'Bartolo'

The 'Bartolo', whilst on a voyage from Penarth for Tarragena with a cargo of coal, sank following collision with the Spanish steamer 'Conde Wifredo' in the Straits of Gibraltar on 29th January 1913. Her Master was G. A. Pattison. She was built in 1895 at the yard of William Gray & Company Limited, West Hartlepool, as the 'Majestic' for owners W. H. Cockerline & Company Limited of Hull and sold to Cia. Naviera Bachi (Hijos de Astigarraga), Bilbao in 1901. She was launched during June 1895 and was steel-hulled, single-screw steamer of 2,586 gross, 1,661 net register tons. Her vital statistics were 314.0 ft. long x 44.0 ft. breath x 20.8 ft. deep. [833] [840]

The London Evening News [841] reported on the following day after the collision that the crew of the 'Bartolo' were picked up by the 'Conde Wifredo' and conveyed to Cadiz.
