This steel-hulled, single-screw steamer was built as the 'London Bridge' at the yard of Ropner & Sons Limited of Stockton-on-Tees having been launched and completed in December 1899 for owners the Bridge Steam Shipping Company Limited (Moore, Innes & Company) of London. She was of 3,033 gross, 1,936 net register tons, 325 ft. long x 48.1 ft. breath x 21.9 ft. depth. The lower image has been colourised.
She was sold in 1906 and again in 1913, to M. D. Assimacos at Andros, at which date she was renamed 'Dimitrios'. Her unfortunate end came on 4th February 1914 whilst on a voyage from Penarth for Marseille when she collided with the French liner 'Lutetia' near Cape Roca, Portugal, and was lost. [833] |
