The general cargo coaster m.v. 'Dorset Coast' was launched at the Ardrossan Dockyard Limited, Ardrossan, during August 1936 and was completed in October of that year. She was a single screw, steel hulled, motor vessel of 646 gross and 244 net register tons being 199.4 ft. long x 33.1 ft. breath x 11.1 ft. deep. She became a requisitioned auxiliary vessel for the British Admiralty in September 1939.
On the 9th January 1941 she was mined whilst in the waters of the Bristol Channel and was brought to Penarth Dock for repairs. The repairs were probably undertaken upon the floating dock of the Penarth Pontoon and Slipway Company Limited.
During 1955 she was renamed 'Isabel' and then in 1974, 'Terang'. She survived until August 1976 when she was wrecked on a voyage from Karachi to Kuwait with rice and canvas goods off Pasni, Pakistan. [864]
