1880 - The Loss of a Penarth Steamer - List of the Crew - Michael Brun, in making a further statement respecting the loss of the Bengore, with 13 lives, says the vessel made water in the fore compartment after leaving Cardiff, that the pumps would not act, and that two days later the ship sank from the effects of heavy seas.

The following is a list of the crew of the Bengore :—Those landed at Dover are :-Samuel Gillett, second engineer; George, Perrott, carpenter; Maniral Bits, cook; Michael Brun, seaman Antonio Vella, seaman; Thomas White, fireman.

Those supposed to be lost are George Williams, captain; Charles Pepper, mate; Richard Owen, second mate; John Caldwell, steward: Mackenzie, chief engineer; Hemp, third engineer; Patrick Brophy, fireman; Samuel Gilbert, fireman; Henry Wright, trimmer; John Clinsey, trimmer; William Mendall, boatswain; and two able seamen whose names are unknown. - South Wales Daily News [325] [361] 3rd February 1880.
