Volume Ten - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Even more aspects - The Chronology of the Proposed Ely Branch : 1834 to 1851 . . .

A document entitled 'Taff Vale Railway - Proposed Ely Branch - A Brief Chronology' is the basis for this chapter. It was prepared by Colin Chapman as a research document and is held at the WRRC, The Welsh Railways Research Circle. [WRRC Archive Reference : TV080] [737]. Much of Mr. Chapman's information is drawn from the TVR Director's Minutes and Shareholders Minutes. I have supplemented the document with contemporary newspaper reports etc. where appropriate.

1835 - 'Taff Vale or Merthyr-Tidvil and Cardiff Railway'.

November 1834 : The Plan for the Cardiff - Merthyr Railway of the TVR Company was deposited at Parliament but did not include an Ely Branch line.

The TVR Director's Minutes of 23rd October 1835 record that it was resolved to include the Ely Branch within future Parliamentary Notices.

1835 - During November the TVR deposited a plan which included a 'proposed cut at Mouth of Ely.'

left : This newspaper notice headed 'Taff Vale or Merthyr-Tidvil and Cardiff Railway' reported upon the General Meeting of Subscribers held at the Cardiff-Arms Inn on 6th November 1835. - 14th November 1835 [241] [361] The Cambrian.
