Volume Eleven - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - some more aspects - Large Testing Machines in South Wales, 1829-1906 . . . The Penarth Shipbuilding and Ship Repairing Company had good reason to use the facilities of the Lloyd's Bute Proving House, which was situate on the west side of the Glamorganshire Canal, not only for the testing of chains and anchors of the vessels it built but also for the periodic inspection and test of chains and anchors of vessels brought to the yard for repair, etc. I thought it was appropriate, therefore, to undertake some research upon this proving-house and include a chapter upon the facilities at this establishment.
