The congregation which now worships at Albert Road Methodist Church owes it origins to Miss Mary Ann Elizabeth Jane Morgan of Barry, who in 1860 rented a licensed house called 'The George' and converted the taproom into a mission room. She also paid for the services of a lay agent. In 1863, a chapel was built in Arcot Street, Penarth, to accommodate the growing congregation. The building was destroyed by fire in 1905 and replaced in 1907 by a new chapel in Albert Road.
