c.160 years! - The upper photograph of the Basin west wall was taken by myself during October 2023 and then I have superimposed and aligned a section of the 1864 view [599] [archive ref : DXPD-6-8] of the two coal tips under construction in order to provide an impression of the sheer scale of the engineering works undertaken under the direction of John Hawkshaw and Samuel Dobson on behalf of the Penarth Harbour, Dock and Railway Company.
