3.0 - Dock Walls and Pitched Slopes

This section is intended to examine in some detail the structure of the walls and pitched slopes at Penarth Dock. These features represent a major part of the construction of the dock. The distribution of the various types of walls and pitched slopes at Penarth Dock is given in two figures. Figure 5a shows the distribution when the dock was opened in 1865 whilst figure 5b shows the distribution after the dock extension was opened in 1884.

Note that the walls surrounding the sea entrance and lock are not discussed in this section but are dealt with in a later section.
