Volume Twelve - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - further aspects - The Bristol Channel District Guide - selected articles - [1934 Edition] . . . .
As we proceed, we get some most enchanting peeps of the Avon's noble scenery. On both sides of the river is a railway. That on the right runs from Clifton Down Station (through a tunnel under the Downs) to Avonmouth Docks. That on the left connects the city with Portishead and its docks. Fringing the river on the right-hand side is the Portway, the splendid broad low-level road which connects the Hotwells with Avonmouth. Opened in July, 1926, it took five years to construct, and is probably the costliest road that has yet been made in this country. |
