Volume Twelve - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - further aspects - The Bristol Channel District Guide - selected articles - [1934 Edition] . . . .
Returning by Upper Belgrave Road, or across the Downs we reach the Zoological Gardens. These were opened in 1836 and occupy about twelve acres. The ornamental lake, on which motor boating may be enjoyed, the well-kept lawns and flower beds, and the fine array of sub-tropical plants, ferns and hollies are notable features, while the collection of birds and wild animals is one of the most extensive and representative in the country. |
