All vehicles taken from this Company's system of Railways, or onto any private branches to collieries and works, whether by inclined planes or otherwise, must be properly examined and greased before being returned to this Company's system ; when and so often as vehicles are taken off as before mentioned the Company will not undertake to forward the same, until such vehicles have been examined and passed by one of the appointed inspecting officers of the Company ; and although the inspecting officer may omit or be unable to detect any damage, weakness, or absence of parts, the owner of the vehicle will still be liable for any expenses which may be incurred from accident arising therefrom. The examination of the Company's inspector is made solely with a view to the safe working of the traffic, and the responsibility of the owner is not annulled or in any way reduced. By the word " owner " is meant the party for whose purpose the vehicles are brought upon the Railway. By order of the Directors, James Gamson Nicholson, Secretary - Cardiff, November 12th, 1883 - Common Seal of the Taff Vale Railway Company.
