Contributions . . . Ålands sjöfartsmuseum contribution Many thanks to Anna Grönholm at the Ålands sjöfartsmuseum home of the sister ship to the 'Passat' and 'Pamir' the 'Pommern'. I asked if they held documents which linked Penarth Dock within the archives held at the museum. They kindly sent me a number of documents which provided an insight into the stay of the 'Pamir' into 1951. The website states:- 'Åland Maritime Museum and s/v Pommern Whether you're a salty sea-dog or confirmed landlubber a visit makes for a great day out. In the Museum's all-new galleries there's plenty to see, with family-friendly interactive stations there's also plenty to do. Moored beside the Museum is the Pommern, one of the world's last merchant sailing ships, just waiting to be explored from deck to hold.' 's/v Pommern The Pommern is the only four-masted merchant sailing ship in the world still in its original state: walk the decks, explore the living quarters, descend into the holds and slip back in time.' I intend to give it a visit one day soon! Many thanks to all the staff at the museum for your contribution to the Penarth Dock story. Read about it by clicking here! |
