1898 - Telegraphy, Wireless - In Bristol Channel, Mr. Preece sent messages from Penarth to Flat Holm, a distance of three miles, and he obtained evidences of sound as far as Steep Holm, over five miles. His system is now in regular practical operation, being used by the British War Department between Lavernock Fort and the neighbouring fort on the island of Flat Holm. [1201] [499]
