The Dock, Penarth - A Valentines Series postcard viewing the main dock with the slipway and Victoria Wharf distant right. On the lower left, a horse and cart appear. I wonder if the horse is wearing the horse-brass from the Penarth Dock Collection? [001]

c.1927 - The Docks, Penarth - A Viner 'Bromo' Card of the seaward end of the main dock with the Basin beyond. [001] Note the Missions to Seamen building close by the swing bridge and the four moveable coal tips, which from c.1908 gave Penarth Dock the accolade of being the most efficient coaling dock in the world! The lower image has been colourised.

The original (c.1865) Nos. 1, 2 & 3 coal tips have been removed and work is underway to replace the re-numbered No. 2 coal tip (the GWR referred to them as 'Coal Hoists') which was erected in 1927 and supplied to the GWR by the Hydraulic Engineering Company of Charles Street, Chester. It had a maximum capacity of 30 tons.
