Volume Two - The Era of Optimism, Investment & Development - The age of global trade and optimism . . .

The Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) Photograph Collection is held at the Cambridge University Library and includes a series of photographs taken by Alfred Hugh Fisher (1865-1945) during a visit to Penarth Dock in 1909. He was born in London, studied art and became a renowned engraver, etcher and illustrator. The Colonial Office Visual Instruction Committee gave him the job of travelling the British Empire during 1907-09 to make a photographic record. These photographs were subsequently preserved by the Royal Commonwealth Society.

I felt that they should be placed together as they are an imortant record of a typical day in the life of Penarth Dock. The original images have darkened with age, hence, I have adjusted them to provide as much detail as possible.
