Volume Six - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Select Aspects - The Royal Navy and Royal Naval Reserve Fleet at Penarth Dock

H.M.S. Milne (G 14) - An M-class Destroyer laid up as part of the Penarth Dock Reserve Fleet until her sale in 1957 to the Turkish Navy whereupon she remained in service until 1971 as 'Alp Arsian'.

   
H.M.S. Guardian at Penarth Dock - April 1959 - Built in 1932 specifically for anti-submarine net-laying duties with the Royal Navy. A large vessel at 338 feet long and with her beam of 53 feet she had a mere 7 feet to spare whilst manoeuvring through the locks at Penarth Dock.
   
H.M.S. Atherstone (L 05) - A type-1 Hunt-class destroyer launched in late 1939 at the Cammell Laird shipyard at Birkenhead on the River Mersey. She was moth-balled at Penarth Dock in the years 1953 - 1957.
   
H.M.S. Zodiac (R 54) - A Z-class destroyer which formed part of the Reserve Fleet at Penarth Dock during which time she was refitted at Penarth in 1954 and laid-up at Cardiff Docks. She was sold to the Israeli Navy and served them in the years 1956 - 1970.
