1881 - Application to Store Explosives - 'At the Penarth petty-sessions on Monday, before Mr R. F. L. Jenner, Mr J. S. Corbett, and Mr James Ware, Mr James Brewer applied on behalf of Mr T. A. Walker, contractor, for a license to store half-a-ton of explosives in a magazine, on the hill at Penarth, where it was found necessary to conduct the operations connected with the dock extension, by means of blasting. There being no opposition by the public, or the police, the bench resolved to grant the license.' - The Cardiff Times [010] [361] 12th November 1881.

The first consignment of dynamite was apparently made to Penarth Dock during March 1883 as the following report published within the 'Engineering' periodical recounts : -
