July 1881 - Dock Extension at Penarth - On Wednesday Sir John Hawkshaw, the engineer employed to superintend the extension of the dock at Penarth, visited the ground, accompanied by Mr. George Fisher, traffic manager of the Taff Vale Railway Company, and made a survey preliminary to the commencement of the work. - Engineering [627] [499] 29th July 1881.

 

 

February 1882 - Penarth Harbour, Dock, and Railway - The works of the dock extension, which it will be remembered were let in August to Mr. T. A. Walker, of 18, Great George-street, are making satisfactory progress. About 80,000 cubic yards of earthwork have been completed, and preparations have been made for proceeding with the construction of the dock wall. - Engineering [627] [499] 17th February 1882.

 

 

September 1882 - Penarth Harbour, Dock, and Railway - Sir J. Hawkshaw reports as follows as to the progress of the works of this undertaking : "Satisfactory progress is being made with the works for the extension of the docks. The excavation is now being done at the rate of 3000 cubic yards a day, the total amount excavated being 372,000 cubic yards. Considerable progress has been made with the dock wall ; the quantity of masonry done amounts to about 10,000 cubic yards. Your contractor, Mr. Young, anticipated more rapid progress with the work during the next two months." - Engineering [627] [499] 1st September 1882.
