Volume Twelve - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - further aspects - Witness to the Past [2023] . . .

The 1841 Admiralty Pattern Kedge Anchor, dredged from Penarth Dock during the Marina conversion works back in the mid-1980's.

During the construction of this website I unearthed a number of subjects that have intrigued me and the 2023 visit to the dock allowed me to investigate further and physically search for clues in the stones!

The first of these was the installation of the two coal tips during construction of the dock at the basin nearby the Custom House. Where necessary, I have duplicated some photos and text from previous chapters to illustrate the subject matter.

1864 - Constructing the two coal tips situated half way along the basin on the southern side. The Customs House is under construction in the left of the image. The wonderful vaulted, arched masonry of Radyr stone is a tribute to the skills of the masons employed in the construction of the dock.
