Volume Four - An Era of Change, Uncertainty, Depression & War - Frederick Riden's contribution . . .

	I was able to trace the history of the Taff Wagon Company in the period 1922 until 1978 from maps and documents held at the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives. First, a lease of 14 years duration dated 10th February 1923 backdated to 30th August the previous year. Deed No. 42710, also permitted 'access over road'. Supplemental leases were dated 25th July 1934 and 17th December 1937.

A subsequent lease dated 14th May 1945 for a term of 21 years had been back-dated to 30th August 1936. Presumably, the war years meant that there were more pressing issues than leases to update! We now move forward to a new lease granted by the GWR of British Railways for a term of 21 years commencing 30th August 1957 at a cost of £550 per annum. So that would take us through to the termination of that lease during August 1978.

	I'm not sure if the Taff Wagon Company were still trading at that date but there is an image of the Taff Wagon Engineering Company Limited on Ferry Road taken during mid 1980's. The source of the image is the RMW - the Railway Modeling Web posted by Brian R in August 2014.
