1939 - Ship-repairing in Bristol Channel - A Trade Supplement published within the Western Mail [164] during January 1939 stated that 'on the whole a satisfactory year's working'. Under a sub-heading 'Activity at Penarth' it stated : The Penarth Pontoon, Slipway and Ship-repairing Company, Ltd., were kept well employed during the year with all classes of repair work. Many vessels were dealt with for extensive damage, survey and general repairs, and the special arrangements at Penarth Dock, whereby vessels could remain afloat at safe quay wall berths, with reduced wet dock terms, have been extensively used by shipowners. The associated company, Hodges and Co. Ltd., at Barry, have shown increased activity and have carried out a number of extensive jobs during the year.
