Volume Ten - Pre-Victorian to the Present Day - Even more aspects - Penarth Dock and Llandough Fields Reclamation Report : 1989 . . . This provided the basis of an access road to cross the dock area and offered the potential of a refuse tip site in area a). Tipping in area a) commenced at the western end in the early 1970's and was recommenced in about 1982, following the purchase of the dock by the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council. After area a) was filled the surface of the tip, which covered the former dock walls, was covered with available fill material. At the same time as tipping commenced, work proceeded on the construction of a water retaining dam, separating areas b) and c). This dam was erected in 1982 - 1983 and a road constructed along it. Circumstances were then appropriate for the development of the present marina at the east end of the dock. Tipping of refuse in area b) is due to be completed in February 1989. Appendix B : Records : 1. Photographs : The photographs included in Appendix C were prepared from negatives held by the Welsh Industrial and Maritime Museum, Bute Street.
