Figure 2b - The entrance to Penarth Dock in about 1884.

In about 1890 the entrance channel into Penarth Dock was deepened to enable the dock to cope with larger vessels. This seems to correspond with the extension of the jetty on the south side. It was increased in length to approximately 350 feet.

2.4.2  Land Reclamation

Due to the need to provide further siding accommodation on the north side of the site it is thought that in about 1899 a strip of land to the east of the slipway adjacent to the river was reclaimed.
