1908 - A John Player & Sons Cigarette Card and a painting/chromo-lithograph (1911) by Richard Caton Woodville, of officers of the Glamorganshire R.G.A. (Royal Garrison Artillery).

1850's - Proposed Batteries at Penarth : The Penarth Head Coastal Defences were installed during 1903, but over half a century earlier it was proposed to erect Batteries upon Penarth Head to protect the Bristol Channel. The following newspaper article, letters and sketch plan outline these proposals : -

1852 - Fortifications in the Bristol Channel - The Board of Ordnance have determined upon erecting a battery of guns in the neighbourhood of Penarth head, near Cardiff, and a party of the Royal Engineers have been engaged in examining and inspecting the head and the adjacent coast, with the view of defences for the better protection of the Bristol Channel at that part. - The Examiner [1123] [499] 3rd April 1852.

1855 - Letter 1 - Correspondence from J. E. Bernard, (Surveyor and engineer to Cardiff Local Board of Health) to James Thompson regarding sites on Penarth Head for Royal Engineers.
